Douglas M. Brill - Attorney at Law

Philosophy of Practice

After 30 years of practicing divorce law, Mr. Brill is acutely aware that courts seldom solve client’s problems. The tragic consequences of divorce should be minimized and not exploited. Children should be a first priority in divorce, and should be protected and nurtured throughout the process. In almost all cases, there are better ways to resolve a dispute than by litigation.

Douglas Brill recognizes that when the parties directly participate in dispute resolution, they are more likely to be satisfied with the results, there is a greater likelihood of avoiding future litigation, and the future is much better for their children. For these reasons, Mr. Brill is trained in and practices collaborative law for willing couples.

As a certified mediator, Attorney Brill is available to mediate disputes between couples, or – when the parties desire – will use outside mediators to assist in resolving disputes. At all times, he uses mediation techniques to minimize conflict.

Litigation should be a last alternative, but unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary. Mr. Brill is an experienced and respected litigator with a focus on aggressively protecting his client’s rights and interests. His philosophy is dramatically different from others who aggressively create an environment of contentious litigation, which is guaranteed to prolong the case, inflame hard feelings, and inflate cost.
